Fine Dining….

August 25th, 2009

Over the past few weeks I have dined in style at the best restaurants in Dubai and Las Vegas.  Yet Kettner’s a stylish champagne bar and restaurant on Romilly Street, Soho was something quite else….

Kettner’s first opened way back in 1867 by Auguste Kettner, a former chef to Napoleon III. It is one of the oldest restaurants in London’s Theatreland and has a secret passageway running to the Palace Theatre. Former diners have included Oscar Wilde, Agatha Christie and Bing Crosby. Today it was to be frequented by the large Conway party!

Kettner’s allows patrons to individually hire dining rooms and we were lucky enough to be situated in the Salon. This afforded us maximum privacy but a more relaxed atmosphere to enjoy each other’s company.

The menu offered a great selection of French cuisine and as a starter I choose buffalo mozzarella, grilled courgettes, marjoram & lemon. Melt in your mouth mozzarella and full of flavour - delicious! For main I had the Beef bourguignon and mashed potatoes and then couldn’t resist the Crème Brûlée for desert.

What a feast.

After dinner we decided it would be rude not to sample a selection of the cocktails on offer. The only downside was I could only sample a small selection as had to drive back to Leicester!

For me, Kettner’s champagne bar and restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy a meal if there is a group of you. It is also perfect for an intimate, romantic dinner. With a wide variety of private rooms available, Kettner’s would be hard pressed to not have something suitable for your dining experience. Furthermore, the service from the staff is first class and ensures that you can just relax, enjoy your company and more importantly enjoy the great food on offer.
